I like being a girl.

January 10th, 2006

For a lot of my life I’ve struggled with figuring out who I really am. Feminist? Froo froo girl? Super mom? Career chick? My addictions, treatment and months of counseling are finally bringing me to the conclusion that whatever labels I feel the need to impose upon myself are irrelavent. I am who I choose to be. Today, I choose to relish my girlness.

Hello Kitty necklaceThat being said, I would like to share with you the nasty, materialistic side of me that I’ve toned down considerably, but not erradicated from the core me. I just received a gift from my mother that has thrown me into full on girlie girlie mode. She bought it in Las Vegas and resolved to save it for my birthday in May. Her resolve melted immediately and she decided to give it to me for my 10 month sobriety bday (I love you, Mom!).

I know I’m shallow, but I’m in love with my new Tarina Tarantino necklace…probably more so than my damn Lovcat Paris purse and wallet. There is something wonderfully cool and playful and nostalgic about Hello Kitty. I remember being 8 or so and saving every penny I could to buy Hello Kitty and friends goodies from the mall in our area. I even named my little peach-faced lovebird My Melody after the Sanrio character.

Ok, enough with all this silliness. I should say that today is my darling husband’s birthday. Amazing how love can grow after so long and so much heartache. I love you, Jeffrey, so much more than you ever know. :-)

Red

April 18th, 2005

I finally got tired of listening to myself complain about my hair so I took the plunge and dyed it ruby red. Max says it’s “neat, but freaky.” At first I was freaked out by it, but now I love it. It won’t last anyway because my hair always fades to the same red color. I think I’m going to wait awhile before I get it cut…I might just let it grow out again. We had a nice weekend. Jeff was home so we got to spend some family time together and get some errands done. Jeff and I went to a couple of NA meetings on Friday night while Max stayed home with Kevin. We went to the big loud mtg at Zion Church and a really cool candlight meeting in Pheonix. It was a nice balance. I wasn’t feeling well (fighting a cold), but I’m glad I went. I always feel really good after AA and NA meetings. I could think of less productive ways to spend my time. :-) When one of the speakers said someting about how only 2 or so people make it out of a group of people in treatment, Tom pointed and Saresa and I and said “you two.” That made me feel good since Tom works at Genesis and sees people like me every day. My parents are coming home today with Abigail. Ginnie’s service is next Sunday at 2pm.
