So many reasons to be thankful - 10/19/07

In spite of the melodrama playing out in my head, I am blessed in so many ways. Here is a short list of why I am grateful today:

Where the hell have you been?

March 13th, 2007
  • Sick: pneumonia and a hideous strep infection in my lymph nodes (rocked my effing world)
  • Celebrating my 2nd sobriety anniversary (3/9!)
  • Moving my company (to town we go)
  • Going to industry tradeshows (traveling sucks)
  • Getting ready to teach a new class at my son’s school (my passion)
  • Planning and giving my daughter’s 4th birthday (my angel)
  • Getting my head straight and getting back to basics (my recovery)The Kids

Yeah, so basically, I had a bunch of crap rolling around my head and was having a really hard time articulating anything, verbally or written. Then a couple rounds with some nasty illnesses and a relapsing friend sent me into a tailspin. Through my higher power’s grace and the unending support of my family, I feel refreshed and excited. There’s really no in-between with me, is there? Oh well. Try hanging out in my head for a little while. Yikes.

Maxisms

May 23rd, 2006

IMG_0308My 8 year old son and I were at a kid’s birthday party at a roller rink a few months ago.  The lights dimmed and the disco ball started reflecting colors to the tune of “Pump It.” Max turned to me and whispered, “I like the Black Eyed Peas and all, but I sure wish they’d play some Green Day or Ramones at these places.” Classic Max. God, I love that kid.

On the way out of the party, he and I were debating who was cooler. I told him that my nose was pierced and I have a tattoo so I would always be cooler (don’t get your panties in a bunch, I was just kidding…we can debate tattoos and piercing at a later date). He looked me straight in the eye and said with geniune pity, “Oh, mom, those things just aren’t cool anymore. Sorry.”

Fire Thunder in South Dakota

March 29th, 2006

From Democracy Now’s website and podcast:

South Dakota Abortion Ban Draws Fiery Opposition from Native Americans — Cecilia Fire Thunder, President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota, recently made waves when she said a clinic on the Pine Ridge reservation could provide abortions if South Dakota’s new abortion ban goes into effect. The ban is set to go into effect July 1st. It would prohibit all abortions except to save the life of the mother – with no exceptions for rape or incest.
