WTF are “Natural Flavors” and are they really natural?
Uh, no. Just a little Internet research will tell you that Natural Flavors are, in fact, created by scientists in labs. Because something is synthesized or created in a laboratory does not necessarily make it evil or bad for you. However, it does make one wonder how safe our food labeling is if MSG can be hidden with the less frightening term “natural flavors.”
The more I read about our food supply chain (reading now: “Recipe for America: Why Our Food System is Broken and What We Can Do to Fix It”) the more I realize how out of control it is. And the more I want to get back to a place where my family eats real, whole food.

Hey,
Thanks for linking to my website (http://beginningfarmers.org). This is an interesting post. I just wanted to point out that MSG (Glutamic Acid) can be found in a lot of places where we don’t expect it. For a good summary of food additives or products likely to contain MSG check out: http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html
